Settings tab is not available in the Display control panel of a View desktop in local mode, or using PCoIP protocol
Symptoms
The Settings tab is missing or grayed out inside the Display control panel of a PCoIP connected virtual machine
You cannot see the Settings tab in a PCoIP connected virtual machine
The Settings tab may be visible, but you cannot make changes.
Purpose
This article provides information to assist in restoring access to the display control panel to control display resolution in a PCoIP connected virtual machine.
Resolution
Toggle Display Settings Control determines if the Settings tab in the Display control panel displays when a client session uses the PCoIP display protocol. This setting is enabled by default.
When connected to a virtual desktop, this setting may be disabled to ensure proper resolution settings so that the resolution always adapts to the host's screen resolution. Using the host's screen resolution is especially important if you run the View desktop in full screen mode or if you use multiple monitors.
To re-enable this setting:
Click Start > Run, type regedit, and click OK.
Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER orHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System.
In Windows XP, change the NoDispSettingsPage value from 1 to 0. In Windows Vista and 7, change the NoDispCPL value from 1 to 0.
Note: If the key with a DWORD value does not exist, create a new key appropriate to the operating system.
Log out of the guest operating system and then log in again.
In Windows Vista and Windows 7, you can re-enable the setting by editing the GPO settings in the Administrative Template vdm_agent.adm template.
To edit this template:
Log in to the Domain Controller that provides domain authentication services for your VMware View environment.
Click Start > Programs > Administrative Tools > Group Policy Management. This opens the Group Policy Management Console.
Select the Group Policy you have assigned to the Organizational Unit where your virtual desktops will be members, right-click the policy and choose Edit.
Under Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > VMware View Agent Configuration > Agent Configuration, edit the settings under Toggle Display Settings Control to Disabled to manage this property in Windows Vista and Windows 7.
Close the Group Policy Object Editor.
Log out of the Domain Controller.
Log in to the virtual desktop.
Click Start > Run, type gpupdate /force, and click OK.
Note: This forces the application of any Computer or User policies that have been assigned to the virtual desktop.
Log out of the guest operating system and then log in again.
If the virtual machine is a template virtual machine, shut down the virtual machine and convert it to a template. If the virtual machine is a linked clone base image, shut down the virtual machine, and take a snapshot.
Note: These settings can be changed inside a linked clone virtual machine or you can make changes in the master image, take a snapshot, and deploy virtual machines.
